Common mistakes that turn G into another letter

  • Dropping the final dit. G without its dot is O (− − −). This is the letter's signature error, on both ends: senders trail off after two longs, and copyists assume the dit was static. The M-to-G step drill is the cure.
  • Flipping G and W. The reversal error: G is front-heavy (dah-dah-dit), W end-heavy (di-dah-dah); under noise the ear can reverse the weight pattern. When it happens, return to the four-letter loop — G, U, W, D — until order and polarity separate cleanly.
