Now the trap. SEA begins ···· — which is H, not “S plus E,” if your spacing collapses. And in fast random code, S (3 dots) collides with H (4 dots) and the digit 5 (5 dots); operators who *count* dots always eventually lose count. The fix is to absorb each as a whole rhythm — di-di-dit versus di-di-di-dit versus five — the way you hear “kick” and “kit” as words, not as counted letters. Three practice methods for S
- Rhythm, not arithmetic. Chant di-di-dit while walking; let the triple become one syllable of motion. Never practice S by saying “one-two-three.”

Common mistakes with S
- Counting dots in real time. The reflex feels safe and fails at speed. Replace it with whole-rhythm recognition before you ever need to copy fast code.
- Uneven sending. Three dots must be three equal taps with three equal gaps. A hurried final dit makes S drift toward “something short” and forces the listener to guess a count.
- Ignoring the spacing around it. S + E with collapsed spacing becomes H; S + T with collapsed spacing becomes V. More than any other letter, S punishes sloppy gaps — the letter is pure spacing, so its chart entry is less about the dots than about the silence around them.
